Have you ever wondered how these dazzling rhinestone hula hoops are made? In the following video, I explain the process that I developed to create these mesmerizing hoops that will add a touch of glamour to your hula hooping performance. Get ready to shine and impress with your very own rhinestone hula hoop now!
Notes on Rhinestone Hoops:🧐📝
- EACH HOOP TAKES APPROX. 6-8 HOURS TO MAKE
- Preferences from customers have been “naked” (untaped) rhinestone hoops for larger on-body sizing and clear tape + grip tape for smaller tech/trick size hoops or twins.
- Weight of rhinestones slows down response time slightly
- Clear protective tape reduces light refraction and sparkle slightly (recommended for hoops with resin crystals and for twins or sets)
- Shipping costs are higher (crystal weight plus oversized package)
While developing my current production process, I learned that there are a few different types of self-adhesive rhinestone crystals available for the kind of application I use them for.
Crystal Rhinestones: leaded glass, shiniest but also most expensive (I don’t use these)
Glass Rhinestones: are more light refractive, heavier, more color availability (that I've found), and more durable with a stronger adhesive
Resin/Acrylic Rhinestones: much lighter weight, slightly less durable with less adhesive (clear protective tape recommended)
The adhesive backing on the rhinestones also tends to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some are thicker, some stickier, some are dyed the same color as the stones, and some are clear. These variations limit certain combinations of stones. Ex. Mixing glass and resin stones on the same hoop will result in an unbalanced hoop. The adhesives might also be different, causing some stones to be raised higher than others preventing a smooth grip.
In addition, because I receive the rhinestones in multiple formats (rolls like tape, large and small sheets), each section of rhinestones that are applied must be hand cut and trimmed to fit the size and shape of each hoop. Handmade items may have tiny gaps in stone placement or a little bit more adhesive along small sections of seams. This is not a defect and will not affect the functionality or overall aesthetic of the hoop.
Please note that due to the manufacturing process of the crystals, there may be slight inconsistencies in spacing. Also, the adhesive medium may begin to melt at temperatures over 120 degrees Fahrenheit which could result in the crystals sliding out of their original placement. (Do not leave in a hot vehicle).
Notes on sectionals: Sectional hoop pieces MAY be interchangeable, but it is recommended that you match the individually labeled pieces of the hoop in order to ensure the best connections possible. Each section is customized to fit flush with its partner piece; therefore, the shop cannot make any guarantees that the sectional pieces will be able to be interchangeable outside their original order.
I aim to be as transparent as possible.
